Egypt and Nile Cruise 2011
Day 1 (Fri) New York/Cairo
Overnight flight from New York to Cairo, Egypt.
Day 2 (Sat) Cairo
Upon arrival in Cairo, meet representative at airport and transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure.
Day 3 (Sun) Cairo/Giza
Your journey this morning will take you to Giza where in the year 2690BC some 100,000 men took almost 20 years to build the great Pyramid of Pharaoh Cheops. It covers 13 acres and has a volume of 215 million cubic meters. This afternoon we will go to the ancient capital of Memphis to see the fallen statue of Ramses II and to Sakkara to view the Step Pyramid of King Zoser. (B)
Day 4 (Mon) Cairo/Luxor – Embark Cruise
This morning fly to Luxor and visit Karnak & Luxor Temples and Avenue of the Sphinxes. Transfer to board your Nile River Cruise ship which affords a unique vantage point passing monuments and temples throughout your journey. Afternoon is at leisure. This evening you will enjoy a spectacular Sound and light show at the Karnak Temple. (B,L,D)
Day 5 (Tue) Nile Cruise-Luxor/Esna
This morning we go to the Necropolis of Thebes and Valley of the Kings to visit the tombs of Egyptian Pharaohs. The tomb walls still bear their original colors. Visit the Temple of El Deir El Bahary and Temple of Queen Hatshepsut followed by the Valley of the Queens, and the Colossus of Memnon. This afternoon we set sail to Esna and cross the Lock. (B,L,D)
Day 6 (Wed) Nile Cruise-Edfu/ Kom Ombo
This morning we visit the 2000-year-old Temple of God Horus in Edfu; best preserved Temple in Egypt. In the afternoon, sail to Kom Ombo to visit Ptolemaic Temple, built in honor of the Gods Sobek and Haroeris, famous for its twin entrance, halls and sanctuaries. Continue sailing to Aswan. (B,L,D)
Day 7 (Thu) Nile Cruise-Aswan
We arrive in Aswan this morning; you could take an Optional Excursion to Abu Simbel. In the afternoon we visit the splendid Philae Temple and the quarries to see the unfinished Obelisk and from where the Pyramid stones were cut. Continue on a relaxing Felucca ride around Elephantine Islands, you will view the Mausoleum of Aga Khan and the botanical gardens on Kitchener Island. (B,L,D) * Abu Simbel Excursion Optional
Day 8 (Fri) Aswan/Cairo
Morning: ATTEND CME PROGRAM. Today visit the Aswan High Dam (largest rock filled dam in the world) en route to the airport for your flight to Cairo, transfer to your hotel and balance of the day at leisure.(B)
Day 9 (Sat) Cairo
Morning visit to Old Cairo, to see the hanging church, the 8th century Beni-Ezra Synagogue housing ancient manuscripts, then visit the Citadel of Saladin and the Mohammed Ali Mosque. This afternoon, continue with a visit to the world famous Egyptian Museum containing the largest and most comprehensive collection of Pharaonic art, including the fabulous treasure of Tutankhamen. Afternoon: ATTEND CME PROGRAM. Join in a Farewell dinner (B,D)
Day 10 (Sun) Cairo/New York
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight back home; culminating a truly memorable journey to the ancient and historic Egypt. (B)
